An earthquake of 7.5 magnitude has occurred in the north-east of the Republic of China (Taiwan). According to locals, it was the most powerful earthquake to hit the island in 25 years!

Taiwanese media report that many buildings in Hualien city collapsed due to the earthquake!

Japanese media NHK reports that a tsunami alert has been issued for all Okinawa and Ryukyu Prefecture islands following the earthquake in Taiwan.

NHK TV warned of a 3-meter tsunami after the quake and showed boats and ships speeding away from the port on Yonaguni Island.

,A massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Taiwan on Wednesday, prompting tsunami warnings in southern Japan, according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 18 kilometers (11 mi) south of Hualien city.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for Miyakojima and Okinawa islands, warning that waves as high as 3 meters are expected to occur soon.
