Flashback: Leftist celebs wore 'Haiti is already nice' T-shirts after Trump reportedly referred to as Haiti a 'sh**gap nation' – at present it turns into chaos

[

While Haiti has tragically descended into chaos, it's worth remembering how leftist celebrities once hailed the Caribbean nation as a “great” country to live in.

The situation in Haiti has now become so bad that America has removed its embassy staff from there. The government is on the brink of collapse, violent gangs are taking over the city and some warn of a pending humanitarian crisis. There are even some reports of people turning to cannibalism.

The state of affairs was summarized by The New York Times:

Haiti is in the grip of an insurgency not seen in decades. As the region's politicians struggle to find a diplomatic solution to a political crisis that has left Prime Minister Ariel Henry stranded in Puerto Rico and gangs attacking police stations, a humanitarian disaster is rapidly looming. Food supplies are at risk, and access to water and health care is severely reduced.

While gangs expand their territory and unite in concerted attacks against the state, millions of people across the country are caught in the middle. Many people are afraid to leave their homes for fear of getting caught in the crossfire. they're hungry. They are running out of clean water and gas. They are desperate.

The devastation may bring back memories of five years ago, when reports emerged that President Trump had described Haiti as a “filth country.”

In response to the comments, various left-wing celebrities, including talk show host Bill Maher, actress Susan Sarandon and comedian Conan O'Brien, jumped to the defense of the troubled country by wearing hats with the phrase “Haiti is already great”.

O'Brien took the issue so seriously that he traveled to Haiti for his show, although he probably did so with armed security while staying in the country's most exclusive hotels and resorts.

Trump at all times declined to remark. But if it did, it seems they weren’t far off the mark.
