The Vatican issued a 20-page declaration on Monday calling transgender-affirming surgical procedure a grave violation of human dignity.
The declaration equated trans surgical procedure with abortion.
The declaration was within the works for five years and was permitted by Pope Francis in late March.

The Vatican on Monday declared gender-affirming surgical procedure and surrogacy grave violations of human dignity, equating them with abortion and euthanasia, which reject God's plan for human life.
The Vatican's Doctrinal Workplace launched “Infinite Dignity”, a 20-page declaration that has been within the works for 5 years. After substantial revision in current months, it was permitted on March 25 by Pope Francis, who ordered its publication.
In its most eagerly awaited part, the Vatican rejected “gender concept” or the concept one's intercourse may be modified. It states that God created man and girl as biologically distinct, separate beings, and says that folks mustn’t tamper with that plan or attempt to “make themselves gods.”
“It follows that any sex-change intervention, as a rule, threatens the distinctive dignity loved by the individual from the second of conception,” the doc says.
It distinguished between gender-affirming surgical procedure, which she rejected, and “genital abnormalities” which are current at beginning or develop later. It says these abnormalities may be “resolved” with the assistance of well being care professionals.
