Singapore's former transport minister S Iswaran has been charged with eight new prices in a uncommon corruption case involving the city-state's ruling Folks's Motion Social gathering (PAP).
The costs relate to allegations that Easwaran acquired valuables price about 18,956 Singapore {dollars} ($14,077) from an individual who had enterprise dealings with the transport ministry, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) mentioned in an announcement on Monday.
“Singapore takes a strict zero-tolerance strategy to corruption,” the CPIB mentioned.
“Any individual convicted underneath part 165 of the Penal Code could also be punished with positive or imprisonment of both description for a time period which can prolong to 2 years, or with each.”
In response to native media reviews, the alleged items Easwaran acquired included whiskey, golf golf equipment and a Brompton bicycle.
The costs come after Easwaran was charged with 27 corruption prices in January, most of which associated to allegedly receiving items from Malaysian billionaire Ong Beng Seng.

Singapore was ranked the fifth least corrupt nation within the 2023 Transparency Worldwide Corruption Perceptions Index, behind Norway, New Zealand, Finland and Denmark.
The case involving Easwaran is the primary corruption investigation involving a minister since 1986, when then Nationwide Improvement Minister Teh Ching Wan was accused of accepting bribes from companies.
Teh died earlier than prices could possibly be filed in opposition to him.
