Justin Schilling's mother Jill Soave was the second parent to give her victim impact statement.
“It is difficult to put into words my fear and shock,” he said.
Soave described her 17-year-old middle child as “the best son any mother could pray for”, noting his bravery in trying to protect his fellow students in his final moments.
Looking at James and Jennifer Crumbley, he criticized their “failure to take action” and prevent an “entirely preventable” tragedy.
“I wish he had done something to change the course of events,” he said.
Instead of “dropping[their son]off in school,” the Crumblys may have taken him to counseling or checked his bag or secured their firearm, he stated.
She stated, “It doesn't appear to be both of you wished or cared on your son, however I liked and cared for my son.”
She urged Decide Matthews to impose the harshest sentence potential – which she stated wouldn’t be sufficient.
