Highlighting the significance of NATO's European allies for the US, Mr Stoltenberg mentioned it was America's allies who got here to its support after the 9/11 assaults in 2001. This was the one event when a key precept of the alliance was applied, wherein an assault on one ally is seen as an assault on all.
