A mass stabbing occurred at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney, Australia on Saturday afternoon local time. Several people, including a child, were injured and several were reported killed in the attacks. The knifeman was reportedly shot dead at the mall by a policewoman who immediately responded to the report of the attack.

At a press conference on Saturday evening local time, police said five people were killed and several other injured, including a small child, were taken to hospital. Police said the knifeman was believed to have acted alone, though they said they had no information on his whereabouts, nor did they have evidence of a motive, according to the briefing. The policeman shot the man when he turned back and raised the knife at him.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said eight victims were transported to hospital and six were pronounced dead at the scene. These numbers may change as more information develops.
