A Mexican illegal alien with a long criminal history has been arrested for allegedly hitting a 27-year-old state trooper with his car, killing the husband and father instantly.

Raul Benitez Santana, 33, admitted to drinking beer and smoking pot before crashing his SUV into Trooper Christopher Gadd's patrol car last Saturday morning, the New York Post reported. Witnesses saw the speeding SUV turn and collide with the rear of Gadd's patrol car as it was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 5 in Marysville. After this the SUV rapidly moved into the lane, where it was hit by a van.
Gad was a married man whose father and sister are also soldiers, and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
“It is with heavy hearts that we report that we lost a brother today,” said state police spokesman Chris Loftis. “Soldiers sign up for danger. They are brave people.”
Gad's family said in a statement, “We are undoubtedly going through the most difficult time for our family as we mourn the loss of a loving husband, devoted father, caring brother, loving son and committed friend ” “We appreciate the support we have received from the community that Chris loved and served. We request the media to respect our family's privacy during this painful time.”

State Trooper Gad
According to the Daily Mail, Gad became a state trooper for the force in September 2021 and graduated from the 116th Trooper Basic Training Class in April 2022.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste said, “I can tell you that throughout the Washington State Patrol, every head is bowed, every knee is bent, and every heart is broken as it mourns this loss.” “Even in grief, to honor Chris, we will move forward. We will continue to serve. Because he did it, we must do it.”
“Dear family and friends, thank you for your love and support,” Gad's mother Gillian said on social media.

Upon his arrest Santana had a bloodshot look in his eyes and immediately admitted to drinking and smoking. He is currently being held in the Snohomish County Jail on $1 million bail after being charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
