South African anchor Jane Dutton recently interviewed author and journalist Douglas K. Murray and the topic of the Israel-Gaza war took center stage.
Jane should have done her homework.
Jane Dutton: I know you work for Fox News. Some time ago Fox News called me to talk about the genocide taking place in South Africa and I said, 'There is no genocide taking place in South Africa.' I was amazed that Fox could then see what was happening in South Africa and yet see what was happening in Israel…
Douglas Murray: But Israel is accused of genocide, why would Israel commit genocide in Gaza?
Dutton: How would you describe it?
died: This is a war. This is what I have seen up close. Let me just explain it.
If you start a war, as Hamas did on October 7, if you start a war, there will be consequences. Starting a war against Ukraine is having an impact on Russia. Russia has lost a large number of soldiers. Starting a war against Israel is having an impact on Hamas.
Dutton: They are the result of illegal occupation.
died: What is illegal occupation?
Dutton: Israel against the Palestinians.
died: Where?
Dutton: That is illegal occupation.
died: Where?
Dutton: This is a definite illegal occupation.
died: Gaza?
Dutton: Of course, Gaza and the West Bank.
died: Have you been to Gaza?
Dutton: Yes I have.
died: Is it occupied by the Israelis?
Dutton: As you know, it is completely sealed.
died: By whom?
Dutton: By the Israelis.
died: and that?
Dutton: By the Israelis, by America and whoever supports the Israelis.
died: Who else?
Dutton: Is this not enough?
died: No, tell me who else is allegedly sealing off Gaza.
Dutton: I am saying that Israel has completely surrounded Gaza. As you know, nothing goes in, nothing goes out.
died: Well, as you know, if you've been, Gaza also shares a border with Egypt. Why don't you mention Egypt? Egypt has a stronger fence to protect the people of Gaza than Israel.
Dutton: OK, so do you agree that Gaza is fenced off?
died: No, it has been closed, although you may note that there are still more workers, up to the seventh, who have been allowed to work in Israel and have actually been given medical treatment and other facilities that are considered essential. Which Hamas does not provide. By the seventh day the number of people coming from Gaza to work in Israel every day was much greater than going to Egypt the other way. So I go back to the question, why do you say that Gaza is illegally occupied? why did you say that?
Dutton: Because there are.
died: Why? Who is occupying it?
Dutton: Israel is an occupying state.
died: No. No.
Dutton: It is recognized internationally.
died: No, no, no, it's not like that at all. This is your idea. Wait, this is your idea, and I have to correct your perspective. No. It's not like that. Facts, we may have different opinions, but facts are facts, and I want to talk to you about something you just said.
Dutton: I am interviewing you.
died: I know, but I think you are not aware. I just… you're ignorant because first of all, you didn't say Egypt is imposing a blockade on Gaza. Secondly, you claimed that-
Dutton: I'm here right now talking about Israel and I want to move beyond that. I
died: It is very convenient for you to mention Israel because you clearly have an animosity here. But I come to the second point. Let me come to the second issue. As you well know, in 2005, Israeli soldiers took Jewish families from their homes in Gaza.
Dutton: This happened when Palestinians in Gaza were expelled from their homes.
died: How far do you want to go? If you want, you can do the Hebron massacre of 1924. But let me finish. No, what I want to say…I want to accomplish one thing.
Dutton: What I want to talk about is that we are talking about action in the International Court of Justice, right?
died: First of all, before we move on to that, you need to inform your audience.
Yes, but we are supposed to provide your audience with the facts, and you have just misled them. In 2005, Israeli troops stripped every Jewish family in Gaza from their homes and handed over all of Gaza, which was completely free of Jews.
Dutton: That was after two invasions, I think, in 1948 and 1967, when Palestinians were driven out of their homes, where they were basically.
died: No, that's your specific interpretation of history. No, but we can agree to disagree, but don't misinform your audience.
“I absolutely don't think what's happening in Gaza is genocide, I think it's an incredible smear against Israel.”
“Gaza also shares its border with Egypt. Why don’t you mention Egypt?”
“I am not misinforming your audience. I am informing them because you are not”… pic.twitter.com/DZhaApyvx1
