A pro-Palestine activist was arrested at a Bakersfield, California City Council meeting on Wednesday after threatening to kill Mayor Karen Goh (R) and City Council members during a public comment session. Riddhi Patel, 28, was taken into custody at the meeting and was being held on $1 million bond as of Friday afternoon. Last month, pro-Palestinian activists broke a glass door and injured a police officer after he was fired for disrupting a city council meeting.

Patel spoke twice during Wednesday's meeting in support of a ceasefire proposal in Hamas' war on Israel. A protester arrested inside the Bakersfield City Council chambers Wednesday night has been charged with 16 felonies after she made threatening comments to council members and the mayor.

Riddhi Patel, 28, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of eight counts of uttering threats with intent to terrorize and another eight counts of uttering threats to some city officials during his comments on increased security at meetings.

These upgrades, used on a test basis at the last City Council meeting on March 28, will permanently add metal detectors and strengthen security at future City Hall meetings. They were later unanimously approved by the council at Wednesday's meeting.

Patel's comments on the matter came during the public comment portion of the meeting, during which he criticized the proposed security upgrades.

“You people want to criminalize us with metal detectors,” Patel said. “We will see you at your home, we will murder you.”

Gabriela Lynn Mota, Lorena Salinas, Lance Mack and Ashley Vega have been charged in connection with a March 27 meeting, during which there was a clash with police at the front doors of City Hall after protesters were removed from the chambers. Police said a glass door was shattered and an officer was injured.

Mota and Salinas are both charged with felony resisting arrest, and court records show Salinas also faces a felony count of vandalism. Additionally, both are charged with misdemeanor charges of remaining at the scene of a riot and resisting arrest.
