Hawaii-born sumo wrestler Taro Akebono, who grew to become the game's first international grand champion, has died. He was 54 years outdated.
He died of coronary heart failure whereas below care at a Tokyo hospital in early April, the US Forces in Japan stated in an announcement Thursday.
Born Chad George Hayaho Rowan in Hawaii, Akebono grew to become Japan's sixty fourth yokozuna, or grand champion sumo wrestler, in 1993, and the primary foreign-born sumo wrestler to win the game's highest title. He gained a complete of 11 Grand Championships.
In response to the US Military in Japan, he’s survived by his spouse, a daughter and two sons.
