The quake, which struck 18 km (11 miles) south of Hualien, was adopted by greater than 200 aftershocks, dozens of which had been a minimum of 6.5 magnitude or higher, hampering search and rescue efforts. Taiwanese officers count on extra aftershocks within the subsequent few days.
