Texas hailstorm destroys 1000’s of acres of photo voltaic farms

[

During a hailstorm last week, several solar farms spanning more than 10,000 acres were destroyed in Needville, Texas.

Nearby residents have expressed concerns about the environmental impact of the solar farms.

FOX 26 Houston spoke with local resident Nick Kaminski after the damage:

Nick showed us the emails he sent to the Fort Bend County Commissioners, the Fort Bend Economic Development Council, and the owners of Fighting Jay's solar farm asking for an environmental impact report.

“We have asked for the same study and we have been treated the same way,” said Mikes Fugua, who lives near the solar farms. “We didn't hear anything from them.”

“My concern is the hail damage that damaged these panels and now we have some very toxic chemicals that could potentially leak into our water table,” Kaminski said.

,

“I have two children and a wife in my family,” he said. “My neighbors have children and many other residents in the area who are on well water are concerned that chemicals are now leaking into our water table.”
